Postpartum Depression

There is no question that hormones play a factor in how a woman feels, mentally, emotionally and physically after the birth of a child. Sometimes this hormonal imbalance is quite severe, which can lead to measurable postpartum depression, and even psychosis. In this video, Giuditta Tornetta, a certified birth and postpartum doula, lactation educator, among other things, helps us to see that when the emotional pain (or numbness) is so overwhelming, there is a way out. A postpartum doula can help a couple identify a woman who is struggling, and help her get the help she needs; as Giuditta says, she refers to this event as 'opening your heart,' so that you can unload your pain, and move forward in a positive way with yourself, your family and your new baby.
